Introduction to the GRS Standard
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a global, voluntary standard set by the international certification body Textile Exchange to verify the recycled content of products and ensure supply chain transparency and traceability. GRS 4.0, the latest version released in 2024, introduces stricter requirements for recycled material ratios, social responsibility, environmental management, and chemical control.
Core Requirements
- Recycled Material Content:The product must contain at least 20% recycled materials to be eligible for the GRS certification mark.
- Social Responsibility:All supply chain stages must comply with ILO core conventions to safeguard workers' rights.
- Environment Management:Enterprises must establish comprehensive systems for wastewater discharge, energy consumption, and waste management.
- Chemical Control:Chemicals used in production must comply with the ZDHC MRSL restricted substance list.
Traceability System
GRS 4.0 uses the Transaction Certificate (TC) system to enable full-chain traceability from raw material recovery to finished goods shipment. Every batch of recycled material, its processing stages, and final products can be tracked via a unique ID, ensuring the authenticity and compliance of recycled content. Ecou Textile has established a comprehensive internal traceability system that integrates seamlessly with the GRS certification framework.
